It's the Sunday after the 2024 general election. I am disgusted by the results of the election. So many people either directly voted for hate and greed or they were too apathetic to participate in preventing the take over. People who were mad at the democrats for not being perfect decided they'd rather watch it all burn out of revenge. It is incredibly disheartening that so many people are that selfish. They don't care that LGBTQ people will suffer, including my children. They don't care that people with uteruses will suffer and some will die directly due to lack of abortion care. They don't care that many rights will be stripped. They don't care that people who belong here will be sent to countries that are too dangerous for them. They don't care that more and more wealth will be trapped at the top leaving the rest of us to fight over the scraps. The most ridiculous reason I heard that someone didn't vote for Harris was that the children of Palestine were killed under Biden's watch. I do not like the way Biden has continued to send money for another country to commit genocide but Trump will not make it better. The people of Palestine will suffer much more with Trump in-charge of the American military and funding. Not choosing to vote for the path to the least amount of suffering shows that the concern for Palestine is fake. Progress is made by consistently participating and accepting the slow progression of change. When the participants leave the game because they didn't get exactly what they wanted, it's over and we have to go back and start over.
The idea that the left must produce a perfect candidate that makes everyone happy is absurd and impossible. People on the left who throw a temper-tantrum over not getting their way by not voting or voting 3rd party only makes the right stronger. It pushes them further from what they wanted. The right's agenda is not in sync with the rest of America but their follows consistently vote. They will vote for an extremely flawed candidate because they understand that is what they must do to get what they want. The has combined the people who want to make America a strictly conservative christian nation and the people who want hate and chaos into a strong voting block. These two groups have a lot in common and don't let their differences stop them from participating. He got about the same number of votes in 2020 when he lost. 10 million on left failed to show up and participate so he won this time.
The smallest difference in opinion can rip the left apart. I don't like guns. I think they should be illegal. I still voted Harris after she said she was a gun owner because I didn't want the party that thinks all teachers should be armed to win. Being a voter is a serious responsibility. If we don't participate and let every little difference rip us apart we'll never create meaningful longterm change. As a matter of fact we help undo all the progress we have made.
